When you’re under 5’5, life can be a little tough sometimes.

At times, it feels like the High St only caters to the leggiest of ladies and unfortunately we can’t all be blessed with thighs as long as Gisele Bundchen. Some of us are towered over by those 5’10 b*tches who seem to saunter around and rub their height in our faces. Literally. There’s been many a time I’ve smacked into a tall women’s shoulder and I’ve received a pompous little snicker over how short I am.

Although that said, it could all be in my head.

But to be frank, there’s many a’trend that seems like it was built for the 5’7 statuesque among us and sometimes us shorties feel left out – ahem, looking at you maxi dresses!

One trend we are not saying no to – no matter our height – are thigh high boots. Not only are they ridiculously chic and fashion-forward, they’re also surprisingly comfortable and warm. And best of all, they can be worn by us shorties – yes, really.

However, it’s important to note a few rules around wearing thigh-highs if you’re a little petite.

  • Avoid patterns – there are few and far between pattern boots on the High St this year but if you have come across a pair, our advice is to avoid ’em like the plague. Choose a dark pair – black and grey are always winners. Prints can be a little overwhelming on shorter legs.
  • Stick to the above 4” rule – make sure there is minimum 4” between the top of the boot and the bottom of your skirt/dress. The more thigh on show the better really as it makes your legs look super lean and long.
  • Keep the rest of your outfit fitted – we’re talking your favourite pair of fitted jeans or you’re ‘come hither’ little black dress (emphasis on the little).

If Kourtney Kardashian (at 5’1 we might add) can wear them, then so can we.
