What’s not to love about winter, eh? If you can excuse the dark evenings and the bitter cold, there’s a whole lot more we can rave about during this festive time of year.
So long bare legs (and shaving above the ankles for that matter). So long itsy bitsy dresses and so long open toe shoes. So long awkward transitional weather whereby we’re freezing in the morning and sweating in our polo necks come lunch. And a big toodaloo to sweat patches – rejoice!
Winter style is here to stay – for at least six months for us Irish women – and we couldn’t be happier about it. Think cosy knits, oversized scarves and more textures than we can even imagine. We’ve had enough of summer chiffon to be honest.
One trend/texture that’s come to the forefront of fashion over the last few weeks is velvet. Velvet chokers, velvet dresses, velvet tops, velvet skirts, velvet boots, we’ve gone mad for those romantic goth vibes. But where to pick them up, you ask?
Like patchwork jeans and emoji-inspired clutch bags, we here in Opsh HQ say it’s best not to invest too much money into a trend that is a trend in every sense of the word. We can’t imagine velvet will carry on to next year’s style season so picking up some good quality pieces on the High St is your best bet.
Of course, Zara and Topshop know how to make us swoon with all their pieces and they’ve taken velvet to the next level. We likey!
Online, we’re looking at PrettyLittleThing, iClothing and Missguided for our velvet inspo.
Go head to toe in a velvet two-piece suit or maxi-dress or if you just feel like dipping your toes into the trend, add some velvet accessories to your winter look and wait for the compliments to come rolling in.
